Hiking the Holland River Trail

It's been a little while since I have been here , not that I have had nothing to say but life changes left me contemplative and reticent of putting my thoughts on paper .
So what brings me back ? , a friend mentioned that she missed my posts and I should continue to write them .

So I'm going to give it a try and come out of my cocoon.

Many changes since I was last here , I am now an urban dweller for the last two years or so , there have been many adjustments but on the whole I like it , we where lucky to find a nice little house in a very quiet neighbourhood with a big back yard with an abundance of small wildlife .

One unexpected discovery has been the abundance of green spaces within walking distance or short driving distance from home , Your Region Forests , Simcoe Forests and a abundance of walking trails means that we hike a new area just about every weekend

I also have acquired a new hobby : Geocaching , which goes hand in hand with hiking .

Last Saturday we picked up 4 caches on the Holland River Trail a 2.5 km trail that is the northern part of the Nokiidaa Trail system which is 35 km long joining Aurora , Newmarket and East Gwillimbury .

It was a very pleasant walk along the river , the trees busy with the calls of courting birds and here and there some spring flowers pushing through the undergrowth . Even though rain was predicted we enjoyed sunshine and for most of the hike, but just as we were signing the log of our last cache find of the day it started to rain , all in all though a very nice hike.

First Cache of the day

This cache had a surprise as this snake popped out when we opened the lid : )

The Marsh was full of these courting Red Winged Blackbirds , I snapped this picture when we started out thinking I'd get nicer ones on the way out but the rain spoiled that plan

The main trail , nice and wide and well maintained
