Our destination this weekend was Everton , but first we did a pit stop at the Tottenham Forest , well it's really called the "Tottenham Tract"of the Simcoe County Forests. We stopped to let the Pups stretch their legs since we had a 85 km drive to Everton , so while the pups stretched there legs we ventured in to see if we could quickly pick up a cache or two .
We only got to see the south end of the Tract , the forest is not very dense in this part as obviously there has been some logging to thin it out.
My research tells me that Red and White pine trees dominate but there is also Sugar Maple, Beech, Elderberry and Chokecherry in the undergrowth .
Timmy's in hand a hiking we will go !!
We had stopped in Schomberg for our usual Timmy's and found out they were celebrating their 50th birthday and were giving away FREE birthday donuts , bonus !!!

Bushwhacking to the cache was relatively easy here.
I could not find out how big this Tract is , but the Simcoe Forests are split between 150 Tracts with a total of over 30,000 acres , the largest municipal forest on Ontario .
We found the first cash nicely hidden close to the marsh
Montana loving it here, she does her own king of caching .
The forest floor had many decaying downed trees covered in moss , life goes on even after death .
This little creek runs throw the marsh east to west eventually running into the Beeton Creek and then draining into the Nottawasaga River
Young leaves uncurling as they escape there buds appearing everywhere in the forest , the life cycle begins again .
Flowering plants I can not identify also a sign that spring is well on it's way.
Lots of raspberry bushes in this forest
Spring brings so many different hues of green to the forest that it reminded me of Ireland
Ferns abound, mostly open by now.
But a few fiddle heads remain.
The creek was not an obstacle for supper Brinx
Our search for the second cache was unsuccessful , we must have spent half an hour here looking and looking , I had the feeling we were right on top of it but no luck . We will have to come back another day for it and for the others we did not search for today.
Heading back to the truck involved a steep climb one of several we had here , from what I have read about this tract, the south side is the hilly part , the rest of the forest is more gentle .
This is part of the Tecumseth Pine loop trail , 4 km in length .
So after a longer then intended stop and a few rain drops we continued on the way to Everton , I am running out of time today so I will post the rest of our trip in the next day or so.
